Montreal Canadiens To Adopt A Third/Alternate Jersey in 2013/14?

canadiens-640x250

I’ve been seeing this rumor more and more around the net lately.

It seems like many people believe that we will be treated to a third/alternate jersey this year.

For many people it feels as though the Habs already have an alternate jersey in the classic 1945/46 white jersey with the blue band across the chest they wore a couple of times in seasons past.

There was however a concept jersey that came across my radar and I wanted to share it with you. I have no idea where it originally came from.

Personally, I’m intrigued by it. The concept is starting to grow on me and to be honest I wouldn’t mind seeing the Habs hit the ice in this jersey.

We have seen them in blue during the centennial season and it wasn’t to bad was it?

What are your thoughts? Would you like to see the Habs in an alternate jersey? Do you like the blue concept jersey?

My Sister’s Heavy MTL 2013 Contest Submission

siflifeLast weekend my sister @KPTOME and her friend @karenkupkake attended Heavy MTL 2013 at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal.

Couche-Tard had set up a booth where they were able to submit a short video into the 15 Secondes de Gloire contest.

The video with the most votes will win a some sort of Evenko prize.

Here’s the link, please vote for and share my sister’s video:

New Vinyls: AC/DC, The Doors, Billy Joel & Heart

IMG-20130804-00470This past weekend we visited what many people in Montreal call the “Vintage Flea-Market” located at 7707 Avenue Shelley. We headed over there with the sole purpose of finding some vinyls to add to our ever-growing collection.

This flea-market is full of awesome hidden treasures if you have time to look, but considering we only got there an hour and a half before closing time we made a beeline for the biggest of the two used vinyls booths.

The guy has hundreds of used vinyls for sale, with prices ranging from $2-$20 for the 33s and only $1 for 45s.

You all know me well enough by know that I went straight for the Heavy Metal section in search of an AC/DC album. I was overjoyed to find For Those About To Rock, Flick Of The Switch and Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap.

They all have some great tracks, but for me it’s not just about a few songs here and there when it comes to AC/DC. I absolutely love all their music. I can listen to them all day, any day. Of course, I couldn’t choose between them and ended up buying all three.

The Wife went for The Doors Greatest Hits, turns out she’s a big fan. She knew almost every song where as I only recognized one or two of them, the obvious one being Riders On The Storm. I have to admit after having listened to it with her, she made an awesome decision in buying that vinyl. It’s a pretty sick compilation.

Billy Joel was an easy choice for the two of us. He was such a talented pianist, lyricist and composer that you really cant go wrong in purchasing any of his albums. Glass Houses has one of my favorite tunes on it. It’s Still Rock And Roll To Me is definitely in my Top-10.

Just like Billy Joel, Heart’s Greatest Hits was an absolute no-brainier for both of us. This double compilation his just overflowing with ridiculously good songs. You can’t go wrong with songs like Barracuda and Magic Man.

All in all we were thrilled with what we were able to pick up. We walked away with 7 vinyls and it cost us $50. Not bad.

New Vinyls: AC/DC, The Beatles & The Who

1374604743This past weekend we ended up in downtown Montreal, The Wife suggested that we head over to Cheap Thrills on Metcalfe since I had never been there.

I had a blast there and was in awe that I hadn’t heard of it until now.

The spot itself is just awesome. From its slanted staircase to the overflowing wall to wall selection of used books and vinyls.
You can find all genres of music in both the new and used vinyl sections. They even take orders for new vinyls.

Once again, I was elated to find an AC/DC album. Let There Be Rock is full of raw energy rock including one of my all-time favorite guitar solos from Angus Young in Whole Lotta Rosie. It was an automatic purchase for me simply because it is AC/DC.

Then I found The Beatles double compilation album 1967-1970. I couldn’t pass up on this one for two reasons; a) I already had the first double compilation album, might as well pick up the second one; and b) there were two many kick-ass songs, how could anyone not buy this album?

The Wife stumbled across The Who’s double compilation album Hooligans. With songs like Pinball Wizard, Baba O’Riley and Who Are You, there was no way we were leaving without it.

I’m glad I was finally able to go to Cheap Thrills and without a doubt I will be going back for more vinyls.

New Vinyls: AC/DC, Rush & Journey

1374599838Two weekends ago while staying with my parents in Chateauguay we went to check out a place called Rock Station on Boulevard D’Anjou who’s advertising claimed they had used vinyls for sale.

First of all what a sketchy place. They do tattoos and piercings in the back, but I wouldn’t trust them. I had previously been in the shop to about a piercing and saw the tattooer downing a brewski while tattooing a client.

It turns out that they do in fact have used vinyls for sale. You have to go to the back of the store and into the tattoo shop, down the stairs to your immediate right and then right again at the bottom of the stairs.

The selection is quite small and you really have to dig through all the Ginette Reno, Passe-Partout and Celine Dion crap to find anything good, unless of course you’re into their music in which case you’ve hit the jackpot.

Anyway, I was able to come away with three amazing albums. AC/DC’s Back In Black, Rush’s Moving Pictures and Journey’s Escape.

Of course in my case, anytime I can come away with an AC/DC album is a great find, I just absolutely love that band.

Back In Black is completely packed with legendary songs, it’s no wonder it is considered by some to be AC/DC’s best album.

I was glad to have found Rush’s Moving Pictures as it contains two of my favorite songs by this great Canadian band. No matter hoe many times I listen to them, I can never tire of Tom Sawyer and YYZ.

Journey’s Escape is also packed with great songs, the best one being Don’t Stop Believin’ in my opinion.

I can listen to these albums anytime, it was well worth the cost.

Eventually I’ll go back to Rock Station to see if they have any other buried treasure. I don’t know when though, the owner of the shop wasnt even able to tell me when they’ll be getting more vinyls in.

AC/DC: Back In Black:

Side 1

Side 2

  1. Hell’s Bells
  2. Shoot To Thrill
  3. What Do You Do For Money Honey
  4. Given The Dog A Bone
  5. Let Me Put My Love Into You
  1. Back In Black
  2. You Shook Me All Night Long
  3. Have A Drink On Me
  4. Shake A Leg
  5. Rock And Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution

Rush: Moving Pictures

Side 1

Side 2

  1. Tom Sawyer
  2. Red Barchetta
  3. YYZ

Roger Fallas Traded For A Bag Of Balls?

Roger-Fallas-Perez-Zeledon-ARCHIVO_LNCIMA20130708_0115_1You’re probably asking yourselves who the heck is Roger Fallas? I was asking myself the same thing when I first came across the story.

I even wonder if his teammates know who he is.

That seems like it’s about to change however. He might not be known for his skills on the pitch, but he will be remember for this trade.

Rigoberto Chinchilla of Fallas’ former second division team AS Puma Generaleña reportedly told Radio Monumental:

“They called me, asked me what’s the status with Roger. I told them; contract or no contract, you can have him. For me it’s a privilege that they noticed him and I’m not going to close the doors on him so that he can improve himself. I asked for 50 balls.”

Just like that Roger was traded to first division team Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR) in exchange for 50 balls.

It’s sounds crazy, but the move make sense considering that second division teams in Costa Rica don’t have sponsors. They cant afford to play their players and apparently new equipment his hard to come by.

Looks like being traded for  a bag of balls isn’t just an expression anymore.

I wonder if the balls are generic or if they have a UCR logo on them?
